ZiiLABS has added a HD cable to that package. The battery life will change until a near-final firmware is released, so any estimates are premature.

I'm doing a school report, can anyone tell me what exactly you get when you buy a 'starter pack' and an egg? And does anyone know the battery life in hours?
Thank you.
Melissa (Blahsblah2001@yahoo.com)

I got my Zii EGG on August 28th and wanted to run it a while before commenting.

It's been running great. It has decent battery life and the sound is incredible. Also, my EGG has an LCD that has all pixels working. My first impression is favorable on many fronts.

As for the points made about:
Responsiveness issues - I'm also confirming that the startup of apps is slow
wireless LAN - I agree with there being no way to configure a custom SSID/Security
copying files - yes, it's slow over USB and I can't check the performance of WiFi because it's not set up for that method.

A minor firmware update became available today and it applied to the device just fine (via MS Windows only). I haven't found release notes for what was "improved". There's also a corresponding SDK update. The handling of some events, hardware button pushes for power down, seems better on the new firmware. A single short press of the power button causes the screen to blank and the EGG is locked. Another short press of the power button causes the screen to unblank and shows the "Z" that you slide the button across the diagonal part of the letter. A longer press of the power button causes the device to shutdown. It's nice to know that a short press of the power button will put the device in lock while it was playing audio and it performs as expected.

I've worked through the sample Plaszma application building process with only one minor typo discovered, so far, in the developer documentation. I'm impressed with how good the documentation is and how smoothly all the development went. I've started my first application and it's actually easy to get going. While developing I've unplugged the USB after copying the sample applications and this causes the device to reboot and pick up the new application while initializing. I'll be performing additional checks to see if I can get the unit to pick up the revised application without having to remove the USB cable.

Thanks for supporting Creative by forking out US$399. I hope you gotten some Aurvana X-fi at half price too. Looks like our share price will continue sliding for a while. "Egg" is the beginning...
